Research

Supporting research is one of the major goals of the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana (NKFL) and the Medical Advisory Board (MAB)  is committed to developing an endowment to provide annual, competitive, peer-reviewed research funding for programs in the state of Louisiana. This fund, the Frank Gonzalez Memorial Research Fund, will enable us to post annual requests for proposals for research funding from institutions and organizations within the state of Louisiana. Proposals will be reviewed on their scientific merit by an independent review board.

On a national level, the National Kidney Foundation is second only to the National Institute of Health in its sponsorship of kidney and urologic research and training.

Francisco "Frank" Gonzalez, MD Memorial Research Fund

NKFL is committed to supporting medical research in Louisiana.  Our endowment is funded through the Francisco “Frank” Gonzalez, MD Memorial Research Fund, individual gifts and funding from the Louisiana Affiliate.  The grant program funds young investigators who have research projects that will increase the understanding of kidney, urologic and related diseases and transplantation as well as improve the clinical management and treatment or cure of these diseases.

Investigators eligible to apply include physicians, non-physician scientists, nurses, dieticians and social workers in Louisiana.  Grant submissions are reviewed and selected by the NKFL Medical Advisory Board on an annual basis.
